Lifeguard Training Course
Ages 15+
Lifeguards play an important role in a swimming facility’s risk management program. Successful participants will become certified lifeguards with the StarGuard ELITE Lifeguard Program, which is the same program used to train St. Charles Park District staff. The course curriculum includes water safety, rescue techniques, basic first aid, Professional Rescuer CPR, AED certification and emergency oxygen support training. Course completion does not guarantee employment with the park district or area aquatic facilities. Payment of the course fee is not a guarantee of certification. Prerequisites: 15 years of age or older before course begins, swim 200 continuous yards using front crawl or breaststroke, tread water for 2 minutes using legs only, feet first surface dive to retrieve a 10-lb. brick from a depth of 12 ft.

Junior Lifeguard Camp
Ages 9-16
A lifeguard is an experienced swimmer that is trained in life-saving techniques. Focusing on teamwork and leadership, campers will learn to use rescue tubes, jump into the pool like a lifeguard and how to react in emergency situations. Skills include water rescues, spinal extrications, CPR and basic first aid. Prerequisites: swim 50 yards using front crawl or breaststroke without resting, surface dive to retrieve a 10-lb. brick from a depth of 4 ft., and swim underwater 10 ft.
